Social Service
Social service is integral to life at Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar. We instill in our students a sense of duty towards society, and sensitize them to the plight of the less fortunate in the world.
As part of our endeavor to shape our students into good human beings, we accompany them on frequent visits to orphanages, old age homes, hospitals and other places where they can spend quality time with the lesser privileged. Our students have a rather high level of engagement with all our social service initiatives, including fundraisers, donation drives and health camps.
Beyond The Curriculum
However, life at our school isn’t all about books and mark sheets. At Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, we believe that every child is unique, and has a personality of his/her own. You may not realize it, but your child might actually be a budding sportstar, singer, dancer or orator.
Students are given different platforms to showcase their talents, as we believe that healthy self-expression is important for every child’s overall development. These avenues of self-expression help children develop sustained confidence in themselves, enabling them to be self-motivated in everything they do.
They also develop in children perceptual skills, as well as the purposeful utilization of leisure. In addition, they give them the experience of co-operative synergy in the company of others.
Dramatics, recitation, essay writing, quizzes, elocution and debates are some of the activities we pursue in school. In fact, extra-curricular activities play a major role in our way of education. For example, classes in traditional Indian music (including the tabla) and dance forms are compulsory for students from the 1st to the 7th classes.
Students of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar excel in sports as well. Sports have been recognized as essential for students to develop sportsmanship, teamwork, alertness, concentration, competitive spirit, punctuality and leadership skills. The school houses a special sports room, in which facilities are provided for students to recharge their spirits and play to their hearts’ content in the sprawling play ground – cricket and football are their favourite sports.
Intra-mural sports are conducted every academic year, among the five houses into which students are divided – Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema and Ahimsa. Students compete with one another in various indoor and outdoor games. These competitions are conducted in all faculties, and the championship is awarded to the leading house.
